Asian Bloody Mary Mix – A spicy Asian inspired drink for happy hour, or those weekends with the girls.

From Dan:
Many of my posts will have to do with experiences or people in my past. With that in mind, today’s story is about a dear friend Steven McCance and his outstanding Bloody Mary Mix recipe.
I love Notre Dame. We grew up about 1.5 miles from campus and living in South Bend requires one to be a rabid fan of the Fighting Irish. I could be called a fan, but in many cases, I have been considered much worse than a fan (have I mentioned they are 7 – 0 this year, no… well they are. I expect they will be 8 – 0 after this weekend against Oklahoma!)
When first married, Mrs. Spicy would not be in the same house as me when watching a Notre Dame game. I tend to not react when they do something well (they should do well on every play right???) Yet when they mess up, I can be a bit emotional.
All the swear words, projecting remotes, kicking the dog (not really), you get the point.
Basically, I am a bad fan.
Steven the Mixologist
Over the years, I have tried to be better, but to no avail. I am too bought in to the idea that Notre Dame SHOULD win every game, every year. And if they don’t, well… all the swears, remotes, dogs, kids away from daddy, etc. Quit judging me!
Anyways, one of my favorite Notre Dame memories is with a very close family friend Steven McCance. Steve was a Scottish chemist that received his PHD from Notre Dame and worked for a well-known pharmaceutical company, developing methods to cure blood diseases – basically he was wicked smart and worked on stuff most of us will never understand.
He and I, on many occasions, enjoyed exquisite tailgating fare whilst waiting for another Notre Dame beat-down against another lowly opponent (i.e. Miami, Southern Cal, Michigan, etc.) He was actually a fantastic cook and mixologist, taking his chemist roots to create delightful concoctions.
Steven had an impeccable palate for good wine and made the best damn bloody mary co*cktail ever – which we partook of every tailgating session.
Asian Bloody Mary Mix Dedication
This Asian Bloody Mary co*cktail is dedicated to Steven – who recently passed from brain cancer.
He was an amazing man, has a wonderful family and will always be an inspiration to me. As you enjoy this “Asian spin” on his perfect bloody mary recipe, please think of all the people who have been affected by this terrible disease – both in a positive and negative way.
When you do, send a quick buck or two to help fight the battle – then go out and get the ingredients to this spin on a classic and get a little tipsy Scottish style… for Steven!

Frequently Asked Questions:
What do you garnish this with?
Well, garnishes are really up to you… You can go as simple as a celery stalk or as intricate as a pickled vegetable kabob. People sometimes even use a shrimp co*cktail appetizer to garnish a bloody mary, it really is up to you, how much you want to garnish it.
Are you supposed to eat the garnish?
Of course! The garnish is made of edible ingredients and is meant to be a snack to enjoy as you sip your beverage.
Can a bloody mary help a hangover?
Well, it is rumored that drinking a bloody mary the morning after drinking a lot of alcohol can help your body focus on the new alcohol in your bloodstream and ignore the old. Then the tomato juice and the other ingredients supposedly help to replenish your body with vitamins. There’s no official proof this works, but some people believe that it works wonders. Personally, I do not suggest getting over a hangover by drinking more alcohol.
