that's not good. yeah, we don't like that combination. and this time of year, we start to talk about it. it seems like a lot more. we've got a pretty calm past couple few years for wildfires, but this weekend was reminder of why that hot, windy weather is not a good combo for sure. we're looking outside at the east bay hills, nothing but sunshine overhead. the areas like berkeley, you're not going to be under red flag warning, but you head further inland up into the delta and we will be seeing red flag warnings up there. winds right now. definitely breezy astin vacaville at was peak around 20 to 30 miles per hour. those are the same spots that we do have red flag warnings in solano county, upper elevations of napa and lake counties as well. these will continue until 08:00pm this evening as humidity falls this afternoon and temperatures build current temperatures are in the 50's to 60's with alameda and oakland at 62 60 degrees. well, nevada at 57 right now. so temps are rising and rising quickly by the afternoon, nearing 90 for some inland areas. i'll talk about

warmer weather and still fire danger and the rest of your forecast. michael. >> thanks, justin morning, everyone. taking a look at your roads right now. traffic tracker for for the most part. everything does look good. but we do have some hot spots and zoom in on those you can see over in the south bay right now, you can see westbound to 37. lots of backup there in sunnyvale because there is a right lane that's closed its just east of north 101. so keep that in mind. if you're heading out this morning, taking a look over at the bay bridge right now. we've got a traffic hazard on the actual bridge. it's westbound lanes if you're heading into the city and its just west of treasure island. so causing some small backup, nothing too major. this is a live look of the bay bridge at the toll plaza. as you can see, it's a 13 minute commute into the city right now. it does seem to be moving smoothly, at least in that area. the richmond, sandra fell bridge. we do have a hot spot there. westbound 5.80. there is an accident there on the bridge and it is causing some delays. been like that for about 45 minutes or so. and you can see that stop and go traffic 60 minute commute to get over that live. look at the mateo bridge. 17 minute commute

their last day. that golden gate bridge coming in at a 24 minute commute. james and ariel, send it back to you. all right. let's get back to our fire coverage. we are following the point fire, which is burning in sonoma county. that's grown in size. more than 1000 acres now and there are evacuation orders that have been >> put in place as well. rob was will tran is live in healdsburg would look at fire fight will. what can you tell us? >> the evacuation orders are still in place. they have not lifted. in fact, they have police officers at certain locations not allowing anybody to go in there and less. you are resident. and even at that point, you can only go in there for a certain amount of time. grab some of your belongings that you might have forgotten. and then you have to leave the location. this is off the west dry creek in healdsburg. couple of police officers here. they're not even allowing workers to go inside to grab their tools in case they're tools, get incinerated by the fire. now, in the meantime, we will move

the camera to the right and it has gotten smoke here as the morning has moved on. look at that. you can barely see the ridge line. we have firefighters here, of course, and they will be here for the duration and they expect things to get worse before it gets better, especially especially with low humidity. rising temperatures. here are the latest numbers. 1100 acres burned 20% contained. so obviously the fight is still very young. let me show you the video. this actually broke out yesterday afternoon started with us the couple of dozen acres. but then it grew so quickly that they told people they had to get out of their homes. not exactly how many people had to be evacuated, but we do know that they have a high school that they can go to enforce ville, which is about 12 miles from this location. should they need to go there if they don't have any other place to stay. the fire grew so quickly that it destroyed several buildings. fortunately, nobody injured or anybody killed by

the fire. but the fire department they immediately took to the sky, try to contain the fire. but with the windy conditions and we do expect the winds to pick up the fear moving forward is all the embers will jump from ridgeline to ridgeline and make the fire even bigger. then what it is. in the meantime, they are making sure that people only authorize will be allowed to go through this location. we showed you this morning. we saw some people coming here removing livestock. otherwise, that's pretty much about it. workers are showing up driving down this road and they're being turned away right now. i know you cannot smell it at a home, of course. but let me be your nose for you. it smells extremely smoky to the point where when we came up here driving through santa rosa, which is 19 miles away. we can smell the smoke, even with our windows up. back to you. wow, thanks for that. yeah. and so people are going to see smoke smell smoke from that fire.

>> plus, just all around the state. there are some other fires were going in the warmer weather. and that is always a concern as we hit the summer months. so let's take a look first at what's going on in sacramento. there's a big brush fire and it is threatening homes and it has forced evacuations is called the excelsior fire 900 acres burned so far in south sacramento. but nobody's been hurt. some outbuildings have been damaged. however, the sacramento regional strike team ashley was on their way to los angeles and they were called back to stay in sacramento. meantime, strike teams from placer county and yolo county and los angeles they are in los angeles this morning. they're all helping to put out a post fire. that's the one they needed aid for. it started saturday night near highway 5 in gorman in northern los angeles county. and this is the biggest. >> over 14,000 acres of that, that looks like a skies on fire. the fire is burning out of control. it's only 2% contained at this hour. and

farther east in san bernardino county. there's the hysteria and fire. this one is about 1100 acres. it's near highway one. 73. and it has prompted evacuation warnings. just warnings at this point. they're not sure how this one started, but they know why it's spreading quickly moving north. and that is because of the high winds. >> on the south bay, a grass fire burned about 19 acres in san jose on saturday. it's now 100% contained. so that's the good news there. crews stop that fire from spreading near san felipe and loss u.s. roads. no buildings were damaged. but 3 buildings were affected by a fire in san francisco where firefighters say this fire actually went in between the walls of the buildings. this is video from the citizen app. it broke out yesterday on the 800 block of kearney and columbus right at the stern school in the financial district. firefighters say no injuries were reported. no one displaced. the school wasn't in session at the time.

firefighters say the cause of the fire at this point appears accidental. >> it's 807. and a nice police ended up shooting and alleged carjacker and now that person is in the hospital in fremont. theydresponded to the carjacking in this walmart parking lot kidd road yesterday morning and they and police ended up stopping a man who matched the description of the carjacker on on mall parkway. he was holding a knife. and one of the police officers shot him. >> immediately upon being hit, the officers rendered first aid to the individual. he was subsequently transported to an area hospital to receive medical treatment. and he is currently there. we believed him to be in stable condition. >> so once he does recovered, he will be facing those charges. >> stanford university graduate organized a mass walkout at their graduation ceremony over the weekend. all to protest the war in gaza. a crime for a viewer sent us this video from the

commencement yesterday. the organization called stanford for palestine hosted the protest, calling the event the people's commencement students are demanding university divest from companies that are helping fund israel. this is just the latest in a string of protests and demonstrations that have broken out on stanford's campus since october. 7th. in the south bay. officials now warning residents of another mountain lion sighting in millbrae. the san mateo county sheriff's office says that a mountain lion was spotted near filet o drive and can a whole drive. officers are reminding residents that if you do come across a mountain lion, you want to stay calm, don't turn and run. want to stand your ground maintain eye contact and try to appear as large as possible. >> kron 4 is your local election headquarters and tonight, francisco, there will be another debate. >> for the 5 candidates vying for mayor. here's video from the previous debate that they had. tonight's event is organized by the san francisco democratic county central

monday. just kind of setting the course for this which includes the end of spring in the beginning of something. yeah, i was looking at the calendar the other day, was like what 2024 were like halfway and do no kidding. and now we're solidly into we can say. wildfires wildfire season 100%. yeah. the heat this weekend. wildfire now burning up around lake sonoma. all a reminder that we're definitely not the early parts of the year, any more summer. just a couple of days away now, spots like san jose. you're in for a warm up later on this week. >> we've got the clear skies right now. relatively cool morning. hopefully you can enjoy it for a little bit. now skies are going to stay crystal clear today, all the way up to the coastline. part of that is due to a dry wind that is actually working its way. right from the northwest into the bay and some of our windiest spots today are also those areas with continued red-flag warnings, including solano county, upper elevations of napa and lake counties up in tuscaloosa county to and generally out to the central valley humidity.

really low temperatures warmest in these spots and winds some of our highest. we will be looking at vacaville and atlas peak around 20 to 30 miles per hour. gusts later today breezy for the rest of us, too. so just generally a mix that is creating the high fire danger. you combine all that together really looking at that heightened fire danger for the inland east bay and up into the inland north bay, too. we will be seeing a relaxing in these winds into tomorrow that should help us out with fire danger into your some of us for this to inland, getting close to 90 conquered up to 87 oakland and berkeley. you'll be at 78 well, antioch in pittsburgh at 86 degrees for your peak temperatures tomorrow through wednesday are going to be a little bit on the cooler side. your last 2

days of spring right there. thursday is the first day of summer, summer solstice and we kick off the new season with a toast. the weekend highs rising back into the 90's inland. >> hey, good morning, everyone. it's 8.15. those roads are starting to clear up in some areas. but traffic tracker for you can see behind me. there's still some hot spots. we'll zoom in on those. it's in the south bay. you can see right now its on westbound to 37 in sunnyvale. it's east of 101, north. so the right lane is currently blocked. and we're seeing that congestion build up its been like that for about half an hour or so. so keep that in mind for your morning commute as you head out, taking a look right now at the bay bridge. everything is moving smoothly. it's a 13 minute commute into the city. once you get past those tolls, there was an accident on the bridge. so we're seeing some residual delays, but it's already been cleared up since then live. look, i'm not a live look quite yet, but there's a traffic collision on the richmond. sandra fell bridge. it's westbound 5.80. it's right past the toll plaza. so we'll give you a live look at the toll plaza. you can see things are moving a little bit there. it's 14 minutes over that bridge about

15 minutes ago. that wasn't the case. so looks like we're heading in the right direction. taking a look at some drive times right now, livermore to dublin, 13 minute commute, dublin to fremont. 21 minutes san leandro to milpitas. it's a 31 minute commute. they'll be just a sunnyvale. 12 minutes, some more drive times if you are using 80 westbound, 80 crockett to the maze. 24 minutes, walnut creek to 5.80. it's 14 minutes. castro valley to the maze. 15 minutes. stanley and or to the maze. it's a 17 minute commute. but as you just saw, when i did that live, look at the bay bridge about 15 minutes or so to get into the city will send it back to you, too. >> thanks a lot. it is 8.16 and there is a nationwide scam that has made his way to livermore and its cause victims, thousands of dollars. here's what is happening. apparently the people first they. have pop-up screens that come your computer and they say there's been some unusual activity on your account and they ask you to call a number for support. then the scammer cell says that your computer

and your social security number of a compromise and they are a government official and they advise you to wire money. send gold bars or give gift cards to fix this problem. that's not legit. all don't do that. and if you have, you can contact police. let them know this happened and there's a way to file an internet crime complaint. you should do that, too. >> city of san jose moving forward now with removing the trash left by homeless encampments before it gets into waterways. the san francisco bay regional water quality control board green-lit the city's plan last week and includes moving homeless residents away from waterways as more housing becomes available and blocking those areas with barriers and signage. this puts the city more into compliance with environmental regulations. san jose's deadline to reach 100% trash reduction has also been pushed back from june of next year until december. up next year. happening tomorrow,

transit officials in san francisco will vote on design changes to the controversial bike lane there along valencia street. the sfmta board of directors will meet and talk about that center running bike lane. there's going to be a vote on shifting that maybe to a side running lane instead, this comes after business owners threatened to sue back in february, blaming that bike lane set up for the fact that they've been losing money and customers. if the project is approved, construction of the new design could begin in weeks. they're working with local shop owners right now to try to figure out the best time to do that work. >> it's 8.18, and mike's diner bar in palo alto has been a destination for decades, but no war, no kron four's. sara stinson actually talked with the owner about why he decided to close up shop. >> mikes diner bar is closing after nearly 30 years of business in palo alto says the word got out. everybody coming telling stories about.

according to debt todd debt dot com. the ceo says that this is troubling because winter travel is usually where people wreck up the debt. about 20% of respondents said that they are putting summer travel on a credit card because they can't afford to pay for it. multiple bay area counties are finally seeing gas dropped below 5 bucks. let's take a look at the statewide average of 4.83. well under 5, which is good now around the bay. gas prices are $0.11 less than they were last monday on this monday morning. here is the high low. you can see napa county averaging 5.19, a gallon. so still over 5 for them. you have to go down the list and get runs 501, just a penny and they'll be under contra costa county and the rest. alameda solano and santa clara counties are all under 5 bucks. it's a 22. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news. why the u.s. surgeon general is calling on congress.

birds have been infected so far the bird flu arrived during the winter of 2021. 22 4 people have tested positive in the u.s.. a former director of the cdc says the next pandemic could be bird flu. robert redfield says that if the virus infects humans on a large scale, there could be a significant death rate compared to the coronavirus. >> well, san francisco school board will begin weighing criteria for which of the 121 public schools may close or merge in the face of declining enrollment. the district says enrollment has dropped by more than 4,000 students since the 2017, 2018 school year and expect to lose an additional 4,600 students by 2032. the district is also having staffing shortages. fact that the start of this past school year, at least 15% of classrooms, we're staffed by substitute teachers for teachers on special assignment. the school board will be presented with recommendations at a june 25th

elevations of napa and lake counties. again, this is a combination of low humidity, warm temperatures and those dry winds. temperatures as of right now are mostly in the low 60's, pretty comfortable for the time being. go ahead. get outside. enjoy what is a comfortable last few days of spring before we see even warmer temperatures into the start of summer, which is the tail end of this week. highs today won't quite reach. the 90's will stay in the 70's and 80's bill today tomorrow into wednesday. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. taking a look right now at your roads. you can see traffic tracker for everything does seem to be smoothly for the most part. but over in the east bay, we are seeing some small congestion zinn. there's currently an accident over on 8.80. take a look right now. it's on the southbound 8.80, north of el dorado boulevard in fremont. now the right and center lane are both closed. it's a multi vehicle crash and there's also a big rig that's involved. so we're waiting to hear more details on that. but keep that in mind, if you're heading over towards the south bay at all, a live look at the bay bridge right now. 14 minute commute into the city. %

89 year-old died from her injuries a year later, it was a place of tragic loss. my grandmother, you are huang was attacked here. san francisco police arrested 18 year-old keon to gather and for the attack. says while they continue to wait for a trial, this is a step in getting closure. we feel a sense of and healing because the trial has been delayed and it's been over 5 years. we still haven't. >> the closed the case. and so is victory for people. you worked with city leaders to rename the park. >> turning the pain of losing her grandmother into something positive for the community. people can experience joy and peace and harmony now years trying to raise money to make more improvements to the park or want more lighting. we would want color rainbow crosswalks.

>> we bulletin boards to just announce, you know what's happening here. he says this dedication will allowed long to be remembered for decades to come. her name means abundant love boy in canton a's. >> she was a very robust, resilient, happy woman who >> walked frequent this parking lot. >> police in fremont now investigating a deadly shooting in a cbs and the fremont hub shopping center. it happened thursday night. witnesses told police a security guard got into an argument with someone which then escalated that security guard was shot and killed. the other person was stabbed. multiple times were still trying to confirm the condition of that person this morning. >> it's a 34 and a robber was arrested in fairfield trying to get away from the police. the police say that he is responsible for a robbery that happened at a hotel on holiday lane. and apparently the

victims is somebody knocked their door and demand they turn over their belongings are be stabbed. police later located the person they were looking for a fast food restaurant and he was getting into and over. he has been arrested. his name is robert morgan. it will be facing charges. in bay. residents and public works. parks workers are concerned about a delay in getting the money that's needed to repair and upgrade security systems to protect public spaces from crime. this after the bonsai gardens at lake they were the victims of burglary. it happened in january and now they have to raise $100,000 to beef up their security system. somebody stole $20,000 worth of bonsai trees from here. they've raised about $87,000 so far, but they need to get more money and you can donate in person or online its the 25th anniversary in oakland of the bonsai gardens. >> well, elsewhere in oakland, the lakeside park, duck pond and bird yard has been closed

for repairs since last year. the city of oakland says the filtration system is broken and needs to be fixed. the rotary nature center is working to do that. but some residents say that should have been done by now. >> it steers it's been like this for. over year at this point. possibly 2. so there's i don't think there's any real reason they can't get fixed back into it's obviously not a priority oakland has lot of stuff on the table deal but at the same time, this is one of things that makes our city joined phone. and i think it deserves a little attention. >> before closing, the pond was a haven for migratory and local birds. and it created a place for families in nature enthusiast to gather and find joy in nature. people in parts of santa cruz and santa clara counties may spot some low flying helicopters and drones next week. its all p they're
