If you have any kind of physique other than “average,” chances are that finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a daunting and exhausting process for you. I’m short and curvy myself, which can make denim hunting pretty stressful for me. However, over the past few years I’ve gained some valuable tips and tricks to save money on jeans.

Designer Denim on Sale

Investing in premium denim might make your wallet sad, but more often than not pricier denim tends to stand the test of time. But that doesn’t mean you should have to pay retail! Frame Denim carries a lot of stretch denim styles that are friendly for gals with wider hips and bigger butts like me. Most stretch denim tends to be really bold and sometimes even tacky (especially at cheaper price points), but Frame is really understated, minimal, and carries styles that can definitely last through fashion trends.

Tall or Athletic

Playing with structured silhouettes is key if you have narrow hips or a petite butt. Narrow hips can benefit from the modest flare boot cut jeans offer, while taller physiques look killer in flares and wide-leg pants.

Lean and athletic figures look killer in boyfriend jeans too – pair them with high heel sandals and you can add a touch of feminity to the tomboy vibe that boyfriend jeans have. If you want to be more reserved, you can also opt for girlfriendjeans or mom jeans if you’re into thatvintage style.

Curvy

Avoid100% cotton denim: if you have a bigger butt and smaller waist, then you’ll get that dreaded gap in the lower back area since 100% cotton doesn’t stretch. Stretchier jeans are more forgiving and form-flattering, so opt for materials that are cotton blended with polyester, spandex, or elastane – stretchy jeans tend to be on the more affordable side anyway.

Be careful that the percentage of stretchy material isn’t too high – anything over 20% is usually going to wind up stretching a tremendous amount during wear and can sag, so size down if you think it will still fit without being too uncomfortable.

You might want to avoid low-rise jeans since they might be uncomfortable to wear (at least, for me that’s the case). Mid-rise or high-waisted jeans tend to be more flattering for curvy body types.

Slender or Short/Petite

Capri or crop jeans are probably going to be the easiest for you to get the perfect length of jeans without having to tailor them. The good thing is that raw hem denim is currently in, so I can always buy a pair that fits me and then go home and cut the hems yourself (you can check out my DIY distressed denim tutorial here).

If you’re on the shorter side, going for distressed denim can help break up the vertical lines of your legs anddistract from your height. Try to avoid figure-clinging skinny jeans as this will draw attention to your smaller frame.
